St. Augustine High School

Office of the President

Dear Alumni and Friends,

The month of May is always a special time of year for St. Augustine High School.  The Class of 2008 will graduate this month.  Also, we will have a return visit from our distinguished alumnus, Rev. Dr. Johnny R. Youngblood, ’66, Pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York.  Rev. Youngblood was here in April with some of his fellow clergymen and talked to our whole student body about his years at St. Aug and his pastoral work in Brooklyn where he was instrumental in providing affordable housing for over a thousand families in that historic New York community.  St. Augustine High School is very proud of him and the work he has done.

Another famous Baptist minister will be visiting New Orleans in May.  Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition will honor the Josephite Fathers and Brothers of St. Augustine High School with their 2008 Community Award for our quality education for young men and for preserving our school after Hurricane Katrina.

Although St. Augustine High School is a Catholic school, we are very proud of our good relations with clergy and members of various denominations.  Among our alumni, there are many Protestant ministers, deacons and men who hold church related occupations.  Many ministers send their sons to St. Aug and in the 20 years I have been here, I have never had a complaint about religious teaching or practice at our school.

There are lots of other events going on in May and the months to follow, so please check our website from time to time.  Meanwhile, I pray that you will have a fun-filled, relaxing summer.

Cordially,

Rev. Joseph M. Doyle, S.S.J.

President
