St. Augustine High School is a member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. The school sponsors athletic teams in the following sports: Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Track & Field, and Tennis.

As Rev. Matthew O’Rourke, SSJ, the first principal of St. Augustine, said in his book Between Law and Hope, “The objective of the athletic program is to provide students with the opportunity to grow through the pursuit of athletics. Our goal is excellence in sports within the context of a comprehensive educational program. This is done so that the student can attain the fullness of life for which he was created. A life that is responsible to God, self and others.”

Athletics is an integral part of the St. Augustine experience. Although the majority of the students are spectators, the rivalries which develop through athletic competition; creates school spirit among the students, staff, parents and in many cases the community. All are brought together in support of the Purple and Gold.
